Vista and 4Gb RAM

i have heard that vista will only support upto 3Gb of RAM, is this only for 32-bit or does 64-bit only support 3Gb?, i want to get more but i dont know if there is any point if vista will only take 3Gb.
if 64-bit will only support 3Gb is there a update or something i can install for it to see all 4Gb?
