Vista and games

I just read this article in PC Magazine, and it talks about Vista and Gamers.

They said that the reason why the xbox can play games so well is because it has a direct path to the hardware, unlike windows that has to go through the Graphics Device Interface (GDI). But with Vista, its going to have a direct path just like the xbox does, and its going to be backwards compatible with the GDI.

They say that because of this, games will perform 30-40% better.

Heh, sweet. But i wonder if this is really going to happen. Usually stuff for the better never turns out as good as planned. O well, i guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Better stuff, more $$$.

I'm pretty sure you guys are satisfied with how games play on your super powerful PC already...

So it's just something to rake in more money whether it is true or not..

I just want Vista in general seems like it's going to be awesome.

Anyone know the retail price yet? Or, have they not said again?

i think xp home was about £300 for full retail version, although £90 also reminds me of something aswell, i'm not really sure actually

From what I've seen on a recent BBC article. Most of the people that were using the Beta version were serverely unimpressed. A few liked some of the new features, but most said that it was options available 5 years ago in OSX, or that it just was rather unimaginative and contrived. Plus, the difference between what is actuallys in the OS, and what was previously advertised as in the OS is completely different now...

they always pull this marketing crap...i know its business but common why don't you give us some real info so we won't be dissapointed when it fails to meet expectations

Didn't they scrap like 60% of what they'd already done to recreate it?

Yes they did, and I'll find the BBC article, just for you guys... :)

BTW, this is my opinion, but if it was CNN or FOXNews saying this, then that would be one thing, but I tend to think BBC tried to be a little more objective. Not completely, but somewhat...

*EDIT* Here ya go, these are people that used the OS for awhile, and their reaction to it. Now if you used it, give your feedback, but otherwise, I'll think I'll take BBC's word for it rather than the marketing machine that is Microsoft!
