Vista and old Xp games?

Forgive me as this may sound dumb ,but for my new computer build I want to upgrade up to Vista 64.

Does this mean I will have to give up old XP compatible games when I switch over or can they be formatted some way to still keep playing them?

I have never thought about this before now, surely somebody has come across this problem themselvesand has a solution
 
Most games that run on XP will also run on Vista, if you run into issues you can simply change the .exe compatibility mode to Windows XP and it should work fine.

Ok so even if Vista is not listed on the box; with the exe.compatibility mode command it should be ok?
 
Yup, ive yet to come across something which will not work on Vista x64, even The Sims and Microsoft Train Simulator, which were made around 2000 work fine on Vista x64.
 
Well this may seem weird but I have the 32bit version of Vista Ultimate and one of my friends has 32bit Vista Home Basic and I can get games to work and he can not. Even if he runs them in the compatability mode. Is this because I have Ultimate or what. There are only 3 games that don't work though. So its not a total failure.
