Vista and XP Dual boot final question

hey guys,

so i would like to boot vista business and xp home sp2 and im a little stuck and i hope im near the end.

Ok so here is what i have done so far and i hope you can help.

i have an 80gb hdd which i partitioned into 2x20gb partitions and the rest i will be using for data so i have drives...

c:/
d:/
e:/

ok so i intially installed xp to d:/ as i know Vista loves the first parition i installed this on c:/

so i finish installing xp which is successful i then install vista which is successful.

ok so i reboot my laptop and it loads to vista fine. i then go in to 'my computer' and i see the 3 partitions.

Vista c:/
XP d:/
Data e:/

so i download http://www.vistabootpro.org/ and i arrange it so i can have a boot load screen. i installed the bootloader with no problem and all seem fine.

ok so when i load up my laptop again the bootload screen appears and lets me pick either vista or xp.

ok so when i choose vista it loads perfect.. not problems there. when i try and load xp it gives me an error message saying that windows could not load.

it then asks to install it again which i have done and still the same error message. could this be dur to an incorrect bootloader?

could someone please help as i have no idea.

I've installed XP on C: and then Vista on D: and didn't play with any boot pro or anything like that.
All works fine right after simple installation.

yeah, thats what i did, and it works fine, although i cant figure out how to make XP the main OS, i dont want my pc booting vista all the time... lol...


any reason why you weren't given a "boot load screen" as a default? it should just give you the choice... as far as i am aware you shouldnt have to download anything extra :S

good question but i dont know why :( could it have something to do with the fact that its a preinstalled copy of vista and a XP oem?

its so frustrating at the moment!!! i just seem to be banging my head on a brick wall :(

might be, i used a Vista OEM and XP OEM when doing mine, hmm....
 
To change the drive letters just listen to me. Right-click "computer" and click "manage". Then click "disk management" under storage. Then right click one of the drives and click "change drive letter and path".

so change Vista to d:/ and then XP to c:/? is that what your suggesting? :)
 
So you installed XP after installing Vista?

Use Vista Boot Pro, and after re-building the boot menu, it will be there :) It only doesn't mess with it, if you install Vista after XP.

thats correct its just not working. no matter what i do. it doesnt seem to matter.

originally installed XP first but since then have installed XP. :)
