Vista CD Burning Strange Problem

Hi, something is causing my vista machine to play up when trying to burn a dvd or cd.
Before this worked fine, so it can't be a compatibility issue or different version of vista.
When using any DVD/CD writing software, the software will work fine such as smart start but as soon as you go to copy anything to disk, it will crash.
With Nero, one of my favourites, version 6.6.0.14 reports:Nero Burning ROM is not responding. The nero express screen quickly flashes up followed by the error.

This does not just happen with Nero, it also does it with other software such as Roxio. And it not only does it on my PC but also the vista laptop which also used to work. I am convinced that there is some software on both of them which is causing this.

Does anybody have any ideas?

You have your answer already: Nero v6.x is not compatible with Vista.
You need to purchase version 7.x or newer.

I strongly suggest trying DeepBurner Free. I have it installed on an XP Home SP2 desktop and Vista SP2 laptop and it works fine on both.
