Vista Downloading Problems

I just bought a computer that has windows vista home premium.

Alot of the time (but not always) when i am downloading files it all comes up as normal and i choose the location where i want to save the file to and it begins to download....

Then all of a sudden the percentage complete stops going up and it stops downloading the file. The download box stays on the scren but the estimated time of the download completing begins going up. The download speed shown in the download box does not slow down though........so i can be on 5% downloaded for a 10mb file with the download speed showing as 500 kb/s but it stays on 5% and never finishes downloading and the estimated time of download complete beings rising and rising

Any ideas?

Here are couple of Questions I would like to know first.
Since you just bought the pc, did you uninstall all the adware/trial programs?
Are you using IDM to download or p2p download?

Are u using IE browser to download? Try download a different files from a different host and see if it does the same.
