OK i have had Vista on my Laptop since it came out and love it! I finally just installed it on my desktop with Raptors (RAID 0).

After the computer starts up, the hard drives run NON stop for 15 mins!!!!!!!!!!!! Raptors are LOUD and its SO annoying! XP never did anything like this. i have everything tuned off at startup (system protection, windows defender, all but 2 items under MSCONFIG and no anti virus). what gives? what is windows doing to my poor hard drives??

i have always noticed that vista had a lot of hard drive usage on my laptop. but it never bothered me as the laptop hard drive is quite. but these Raptors aren't.

My video card on my desktop, the fan for it is really loud for a minute when you start up the computer. Why I don't no. Just one of those things. There is nothing wrong with the hard drives. Did you have them running in raid 0 on xp?

WOOT WOOT!!! i figured out what was causing the HD usage. it was searchindex.exe which automatically runs at startup in Vista. so i disabled it through Services.msc :)

SO much happier!

What exactly does "searchindex.exe" do for you anyway? I may want to disable it also if it's not necessary. Thanks.
