Hi All,

New member here so a nbig hello to all.

I am running Vista Ultimate on my laptop.

On my C drive - I think Vista is wrong when it says that I have 2GB space left!

Does anyone know if this is an issue with Vista, or has anyone come across this issue before!

Thanks.

Are you sure that vista is showing the wrong size? Open your hdd up and highlight all the main folders and then hit properties by right clicking. It should be the same or close to what the main "My computer" shows.

Try this, maybe Vista has a more robust command line by default, but you may need to install a support pack to get these command line tools.

Code:
DIRUSE /M /q:1.5 /* c:\

Thanks guys. I think I see where I have gone wrong.

What's the easiest way to reclaim some space.

System Clean

Oh yes guys, my favourite!!!! CCleaner :P!!!!!

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Thanks for that. I ran CCleaner and that has helped free up a lot of space. I don't know why I didn't think of that as I have used it before.

Hi, also consider freeing the disk space used by System Restore points and default Backup files in Vista.
If you are sure that you wouldn't need to restore your system, flush all restore points and backup files by just turning off System Restore and Backup and Restore centre and switching it on again.

My C: 38GB, E: 18GB, F: 18GB

I keep normally keep data on seperate partitions. But recently I have been getting into the bad habit of piling everything on Desktop which is one of the reasons my C was getting full.

Running CCleaner once a weak is realistic for me. I know I'll forget.

WOW!!! You seriously need a bigger hard drive, with all those partitions it would be an 80GB hard drive, right??

I would say get a 160GB as a slave, and then have C for the OS.

^^ Yeah def need a bigger hdd!! I have a 320gb and a 750gb and both are over half full!! Im thinking of getting another 750gb.

I understand what you are saying but I don't think it applies to me. Most of my E and F are empty. I don't downlaod much video's and pictures.

Only things that take up space are office documents and loads of emails with attachments and programmes. I have a lot programmes I use. I probably have close to 10GB worth of emails going over 2 years. I have backup them up. I needed a very portable tablet. I have 12" laptop as I don't want it to be heavy - I had to make some sacrifices. I Have 500GB external USB HD if I need storage.
