Hello chaps,

Okay so i just purcased a Laptop with Vista Basic x32 installed,But its got so much bloatware installed and all that crap and ive never realy been a fan of Vista so i would like to remove it and install Xp pro X32.

Asus gave me a Windows Vista recovery media cd with it,So does this mean that if i ever want to install Vista back on it i can do so from this disk?

cheers

First thing I would do is go to the Manufacturers website and see if they have
drivers for your machine running XP. If not, then do some optimizing to help
Vista run better.

You should be able to as long as you don't delete any recovery partitions.

There are no recovery partions on the hard drive,so i think its all on that disk they gave me.

the product key is under the laptop.

The disk should be all you need. Like bodaggit said, check the ASUS site for XP drivers.

Vista basic is pretty much a stripped down OS I don't know what bloatware your talking about unless your talking about the extra stuff that Asus installs. You can always remove the bloatware/trial versions with the add/remove control panel. A 2Ghz Celeron CPU is pretty low end for Vista but you have enough RAM that Vista basic should run just fine on there.

Okay well i was intending to install Xp,But its asking for Sata drivers and theyre not exactly simple to find atm

So i installed Windows 7 X64......so much faster and responsive!

actualy, talking about the celeron been low end..it is but its actualy quite fast, alot faster than my Atom N70 is in my old Netbook.

also another thing i didnt know, the ram in my laptop is DDR2 800Mhz,i thought it would only be 557 0r 667.

much better.:)

As mentioned, the most important part of this is checking for drivers. Some sites don't have drivers for XP anymore (for certain laptops). But there are always other ways. If ASUS doesn't have XP drivers for it, you can always Google/other forums for alternative drivers, which may even be official but they simply don't have them at the manufacturer's site.
