Hello all again. I am having a problem with a family members laptop. They said it has been giving a error message "windows detected a hard disk problem".

Looks like the HDD is about to die but Im not sure. Now the laptop seems fine but keeps showing this message after every boot. Does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying message?

Cheers ppl

Sounds like either the hdd is dying or a boot file is corrupt. Search google for a hdd check utility or someone else can recommend one. If the utulity doesnt come up with anything then try a system restore or system repair.

Ok mate, will have a look tomorrow. Getting late here. Does anyone know how to atleast get rid of the message?

Check in msconfig! It might be in there but prob not. Also try cleaning everything out with CCleaner. It's worth a shot.

Good call, Tried both. Nothing in MSconfig. (from what I can see) & Installed CCleaner and ran it. Good software but pop up is still there at start.

Ok I got rid of the message, just have to let it sit there and click cancel about 3 times when it keeps poping up. Then after the 3rd time it will say do not show this message again. Job done. Though I still need to replace the HDD.
