Vista/nvidia problem

(I hope i have this in the right forum..)

I'm buying a new cyberpowerpc desktop with vista home premium and i was wondering if i should get a ATI RADEON HD 2600 XT instead of a geforce 8800 gts because I heard of these horrible bugs going on between nvidia and vista that would cause the the computer to not function correctly. cyberpowerpc doesnt have a great selection in amd graphics cards comparing to there geforce cards.

Should I possibly get xp instead??

any advice?

I'm not familiar with Cyberpowerpc that much but your decision as far as video card and version of Windows has to be on preferences there. Most will scream for the 8800 since they mainly use a system for gaming. That also means going for XP simply since many ocmplaint about how memory hungry and slow Vista seems to them.

On a new build here I went for the MSI Radeon HD 2600XT 512mb model to upgrade into a mid range ATI model over the last build seeing an MSI Radeon X1300 Pro 256mb model low on list there but still ran games at high settings. The type of system you want whether for serious gaming or simply the occasional gaming session should be the thing to look at first.

Here I found some 6-7yr. old games ran better with Vista over XP. But the primary purpose here is a work horse type build not a strictly gaming system saving the need for any high end video card. XP has been around long enough to see most bugs corrected however with SP3's final version due out sometime soon. That will also see the SP1 for Vista from Microsoft.

The 8800GTS is a much much better card than the 2600XT, there not even in the same league

You posted the same link twice there for one review with a limited selection of games mentioned. You won't even find the HD 2600XT in the list while older ATI models are. So far the MSI version of the HD 2600X has actually performed well here in games as well as other things.

But again the type of build and budget is the consideration not one or another card. Here I run all games at the 1280x1024 screen resolution and high settings with sound as the main problem ever being seen. That has to do with some of the older games from 6-7yrs. back.
 
Two different links, one has the 8800 320mb, the other is the 8800 640mb. Did you even look at it, the 2600XT is (way) down at the bottom! Doesnt really matter between the 2600XT and the 8800GTS, there not even close enough to compare

ATI is making up for their cards with better drivers, what an improvement from the 1X series! I haven't had a problem with my GTX and Vista yet...
 
Creative is the one seeing problems lately not ATI. For those with the X-Fi lineup pay attention. Once the software was installed from the cd on Vista the volume control panel is readily seen when double clicking the icon seen in the system tray. no biggie there.

Once XP was installed on the new build here and updates were gone for the update options saw what? Vista drivers go on XP? When directing choosing XP on the selector at the support site the latest seen with a July date indicated web updater for Vista Update3? The December 2006 update later tried saw Update1. Where did Update2 go I wonder? if there was one.

Regardless when looking the updates lack the volume control icon for bringing up the volume control panel which is one large volume control knob with two small ones seen for bass and tremble. The original cd software as well as updates kept seeing the P17RunE.dll error with module not loading when first reaching the XP welcome screen.
