Im trying to help out a friend of mine. Hes got a Compaq desktop that was supposedly purchased new with Vista on it not horribly long ago.
We were hangin out last night and doin stuff on the computer and the thing is painfully slow, I mean.....its bad. It takes literally about 10 seconds to open a right-click dialog box.
I took a quick look at his specs and noticed it has a 3.2ghz P4, so I didnt see that being a problem.
Then I noticed the 1GB of RAM, I didnt look at the usage in the Task Manager, but had been noticing that his HD light was pretty much constantly on and chugging even when we were just browsing the web.
I know when I got my machine, it was using 1GB of memory literally right out of the box. That was one of the first things I looked at, and it was using 30% of its physical memory the first time I turned it on.
I know that Vista kind of adapts to use less memory based on the total amount available, but even so, his PC is slow....to the point its actually frustrating. Not like "its slow in games" or "I cant edit videos"...but like "I experience significant lag in Windows Explorer" kind of slow.
Im thinking he needs about 2GB of RAM instead of 1. Agree or Disagree?
