Vista for visuals, looks great.
XP for performance and stability.
Overall, XP for me - it just works, well for a Microsoft release it does, :P

I prefer vista. I have had very few issues with it and it works great on my machine. I have tried XP several times and I find it to run actually SLOWER than vista with running things. Also I didn't have to fight with vista to get my wireless to work right like I did with XP. I had to reinstall it like 4 times before it would work right. So my vote is vista. I have tried windows 7 and I'm not really impressed with it. You can do a lot with vista if you know how. It's actually quite powerful if you have the right knowledge. But, if people want to stick with XP (slower and older technology, can't see more than 3.25GB of RAM) then go for it. I personally would rather be able to see all of my 4 gigs of ram with vista and yes I do only run 32bit of both. So if you can't run vista right, then quite simply don't run it and stop complaining.

Slower? Its boots up in half the time Vista or 7 does on my rig, Its more responsive when i first log in, For example when i log in...if i press on Firefox it will take a good 10-15 seconds before its even responded and brought up my homepage...and this is firefox,Nothing demanding.

On Xp this is instant.

Also you mention, Can't see more than 3.25gb of ram, The X64 bit Xp can and Xp x64 isn't as bad as people make it out to be, If you take your time and look around you can get things to work on it and find appropriate drivers.

If Xp had Direct x 10 capabilities then allot of people, especialy gamers would not have bothered with upgrading to Vista-7 and that's the only reason I'm not using Xp now on my main rig because i want DX10.

I think both systems are equally good. I have XP on PC, and Vista on laptop.
IMHO Vista is such as quick XP, but I have very clean system.

yeah but there is so much more than looks to an OS but I think I would go vista now I think Microsoft has gotten a good amount of bugs worked out.

Indeed, whats the point in having a nice looking os,If it just doesn't work efficiently? :D

imo,and i know people are going to bash me for this one but the only OS that can handle both good looks and reliability is OSX and Linux.

I really dislike Vista as an OS but I run it so I can take advantage of DX10. I think the control panels are the most convoluted piece of crap interface that MS has ever made. It makes the dos shell for windows 3.11 look organized and neat. Why on earth did they change that stuff?

I also hate Windows version of POSIX and their heavy lacking command line. I can't automate crap natively on my windows box so I have be an OCD computer user by hand. I hate clutter and convoluted things on my computers because I want them to be simple and streamlined. I think XP did this pretty well, and I think MS should have kept that concept in Vista.

I mean it takes me 10 minutes drilling through damn window pane after window pane to figure out where I need to be in the control panel to turn something on or off or to configure some service the way I want it.

Whatever happened to keep it simple stupid? I like simplicity because it allows me to have more control over my system in a better manner.

Vista works great for me. I have both Vista and XP on my pc and Vista definitely excels over XP.

When I boot Vista, as soon as I get the desktop, it's ready to run.

When XP gets to desktop and I can hear the hard drive still crunching
for about 2 minutes. lol

Programs also open faster for me in Vista. Photoshop opens in less than
5 seconds. XP about 20 seconds.

I used to hate Vista...until I tried it for more than 5 minutes.

I've used Vista since it was in beta and I still don't like it. Their control panels need to be cleaned up a ton. Why so many sub menus? It is just convoluted as all hell.

Classic View FTW :)

When Vista is totally stock, un-tweaked, just like it is when you first install it, it's a horrible OS. But once you change some settings, the layout, etc., it's a much more usable and friendlier OS to work with.

I'll never understand why people use the Windows Classic appearance.

It's blah.

It is because when I have to drill through 90 damn sub menus to get into one preference pane. Classic view you click on it and all the options are under that one menu, just like it SHOULD be.

Vista

I do like vista the most but can see why people go for xp the only thing I dont like on vista is the new start menu so I always use the older one!

XP had the same Start Menu as Vista does.

The machine you were used to probably had the Classic Start Menu enabled.

On my system XP does nothing but slow it down. Also I did say I was using 32 bit on both operating systems. What kind of system are you using because no matter what browser I use it opens lightning fast with Vista. IMO Windows 7 is more of a joke than Vista as it is also slower on my computer. I may be talking outta my a!@ but that's my opinion on XP. Don't get me wrong, I do think its a great operating system and I did use all off the updated drivers for it and it made no difference. Vista on my computer is hands down faster in every aspect except maybe the bootup, but even that is a tossup. I also disable a lot of the crap that vista loads so therefore it is faster than XP.
