Vista or XP

Does Vista really better than XP or it's just MS lack of money ??
Is it reliable to spend such cost on Vista or I won't get anything great?????

Vista will be better then XP, but right now theres no point in buying Vista because virtually nothing is made for it yet.

I wouldnt agree, Everything, save a few software programs and Mac, and etc is Compatiple with Windows Vista. The only thing that I would find wrong with it is the requirements but Microsoft made it clear that any machine with at least the required 512mb, recent intel processor (and others) would run Home Basic excelently. Its made to manage unlike the other former OS's, and It'll run just fine on any computer on the market today. If you want home premium however, I would suggest a decent graphics card "not shared" and 1gb of ram due to the beautiful aero effects.

First off MS is no where near having a money crisis especially when the ceo is worth more the half of the us lol. Second its amazingly different. I have the final ultimate edition and have for 4 weeks now through my school and i would never go back. Its freaking sweet and i haven’t found a single program yet that hasn’t already updated for vista or that vista wont automatically recognize and slide back to xp settings temporarily to install.

Buying Vista isn't worth it, you get a few flashy effects for the cost of a lot of money, and your system resources beign heavily used. You can do on the Vista the same on XP (minus a few things), so it would definatly be worth waiting a year until they bring out bug fixes (which i can wont bet there will be, but i KNOW there will be) and until more stuff is vista only. It will also be cheaper in a year. For me it is the mighty penguin. LINUX!!!

Yeah I would wait until at least the first service pack comes out before buying it. Then most of the bugs and security stuff will be right.

wait a few months and you will see what people who are using it think about it on this and other forums

Well the main thing that attracts me is DirectX 10 but i am going to have to wait for the 8800 GPU's to come down a bit thou.

also am i right to say that the basic edition of vista is not going to be having the aero effects and most of the "vista" experience?

Yes the basic edition is horrible its no more then xp with a new skin. The other versions are much better and worth the money if you have to pay. I dont see a sp coming out anytime soon with this os unlike the last 2 they put out they did not rush this one and its got everythign it needs so far. They are only putting out like 2 updates a week and ususally 1 if not both of them are for windows defender... I have not been a big backer before but they finally got it right with this one its well worth the money and the longer you wait the less you get... The price wotn go down on much maybe the hardware for it but the software itsself is set in its price!

Have you considered running Linux with Beryl which has effects that far surpass Vista on your pc (which would fly on your system) and buying an xbox360 for gaming?

Cost example (Pounds Sterling):

Vista Ultimate £332 (ebuyer.com)

Linux + Beryl £FREE
Xbox360 Full System £279.99 (argos)

Or if you only want Vista for the games, not eye candy then stick with XP and get the 360?

It's free if you have an IT related major. I do, which is why I also get Vista for free :)
