vista problem.. harddrive running hard on every programs....

Hey. I just installed vista and it works great. I love the graphics and everything, but one thing that really bother me is the sound of the harddrive. This never happened with XP, but on vista, the harddrive runs hard and so frequently that at some point, I really want to throw out my computer out the window. my computer spec is

2.8 GHZ celeron processor
1.24GB ram
integrated graphics card
80 Gigabyte hard drive (not sure about the rpm)

Whenever I open a program or if it is doing those auto updates, computer doesn't really slow down but harddrive runs so hard and loud. Is there any way to fix it except changing the HD?
 
This can happen even when installing XP or another older version where the drive is taxed from the need to restart the system several times in order to complete not only the installation but all of the updates and hard drivers/softares you install. A weak drive worn will start sounding louder as it approaches failure. If you start hearing any clicking sounds you know the drive's read/write heads are tapping against the platters. Other drives will simply quit without that beiong heard. Sounds like it's starting to bind up there.
 
I would plan on backing up anything important to removable media at least in the event the drive does go on you. It never hurts to have a spare drive just for storage and backup onhand either. I recently added in a 500gb sata for backing two different versions of Windows as well as storing files without tying up space on the other two drives used here. Generally you won't even hear anything from a good working drive.
 
start looking for a new drive, I just bought a new maxtor ATA serial 250gb for $65 new, drives are on sale all the time. they are cheap enough now to just buy a new one till waiting for your old one to commit suicide.
 
With two 250gb ide drives and a recently added 500gb sata I don't want to be hearing any "strange sounds" at this point. But I create backup folders on each drive just in case a drive does decide to go... :eek: DOA! When installing Vista on the second ide drive here it didn't seem to be pounding the system anymore then repeat installs of XP for multi OSing.

That would be an explanation but what if it occurs with Vista and it doesn't with XP, both installed on the same hardrive?
 
You should check and see how much memory Vista is taking up. If it's alot Vista maybe accessing the pagefile which would explain the excess hard disk usage, but it does look like you have quite a bit of ram it's still a possiblity though.

Vista is still a new "bug infested" version of Windows to put it bluntly. XP had it's own share before SP1 and finally SP2 saw those fixed. Lately I've been hearing more of those involving IE 7 failing to connect or crashing while browsing from different sources. The one thing Vista has to offer over XP at this point besides the "new themes" is an automatic repair process when you boot up from the installation disk. Once the initial startup screen appears you click on the repair link at the bottom to see a menu of options on the next screen. You might want to give that a try.
 
how old is the hard drive? 80gb it can't be all that new. Coinsidence, perhaps. Old age .. I would imagine so.

Vista isn't near as buggy as people want to make you think. I haven't had a single problem.
 
You can see a bad drive once in awhile even if it's a relatively new one. As far as seeing problems with Vista the initial was the lack of seeing an update by 3rd parties for drivers and patches. The situation with IE 7 also sees a fast solution as well. To update you on that the advanced settings in the properties of IE could see changes on IE 6.0 without problem. But for some reason now when some of those are checked or unchecked IE fails to connect. This could also explain why some are seeing crashes.
