Vista program manager

Firstly, I am not to computer literate (to old).
I have bought a new compiuter with Vista basic.
I am trying to download Quicken from a CD I have with various programs on it.
Usually I just double click on the program & it instals. Vista refuses to do this & tells me to launch the program from windows program manager. Can anyone tell me how to find this?

1996! Try running that old a version on an old boat achor seeing 95 or 95 PLUS! :P Yet surprizing some old dos stuff will run in a virtual window.

That is a very old 8bit dos game running on a virtual dos drive there. But that doesn't see the typical Windows installer being a dos program where you simply ran into the compatibility issue right away.

That's due to being 2000/XP compatible written for NT cored versions. The 1996 release was for Fat16 95. In that regard desktop apps are worlds apart. For going out and buying a new software Vista compatibility and planning ahead for Windows 7 would be the thing to look at with the 2008 version.

Thanks for the info. I had XP on my last computer & the old quicken worked on it, albeit with one error. The dates had difficulty with years 2000+.
The old data is not critical, so if need be, I will start from scratch.

What the newer version will do is simply convert the original file into the newer format. The advice on the other link advises first making up backup copies before proceeding there.
