Vista quit Updating in 2012?

I have two computers both with vista and while one updates on its own without any trouble, the other says it cannot update. I installed Bitdefender on both computers a few years ago and was surprised that Bitdefender was able to update all the missed updates while Windows Update could not. I was just about to upgrade to Win7 before installing Bitdefender just for the updates.

I’ve continued to use Bitdefender as my primary update utility, but I recently had a meltdown with Bitdefender and had to reinstall it. I have now lost confidence in the program and may not upgrade next year which means I might have to upgrade to 7 after all.

Anybody have any ideas on this?

Oh, Microsoft support was useless on this although I haven’t tried again for over a year.

Mainstream support of Vista ended on April 10, 2012, just like XP's end of mainstream support was 2009. Vista is supported until April 11, 2017.

Are you running SP2 on both machines? Unless you're running the latest service pack Vista is unsupported and it won't receive new updates.

Yes they both are running SP2 and they are both currently up todate thanks to Bitdefender.

You do raise a question though and I'm wondering if there was a problem with the SP2 installation although it does say its SP2. Actually I just can't remember if I upgraded it to SP2 or it came upgraded. I have to find the original disk to be sure.
