How do you guys think Vista will run on my system?

i think i might download an evaluation of it when its officialy released to see how it runs.
(thats of course if you can download an evaluation)

Or do you think i should not bother with it on my system?

Other than it looking better than Xp.....Is it realy worth upgrading from xp?

minimum system requirement for vista
  • A modern processor (at least 800MHz).
  • 512 MB of system memory.
  • A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.
Recommended system requirement

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB of system memory.
  • DirectX 9 graphics card with a WDDM driver support, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), and Pixel Shader 2.0 .

The free evaluation download period has ended for RC1... and i doubt very much if they will release a free trial again when it's in production.

However, if you still want a copy of the RC1 version, check your local PC mags for a cover disk with it on it.
In Australia, the "APC" Magazine had RC1 on its cover DVD...however that was about 1-2 months ago.

I tried the 64bit verison on my old Compaq(Athlon 64 3700) and the performace was much lower than with XP(32bit) It was acceptable, but I'd much prefer XP over Vista, and don't plan to upgrade anytime soon :P

wow, i thought the requirements would be much higher than that...

The minimum is just that bare minimum and it will barely run on that. I have tried rc2 on several computers and man oh man is it slow on the ones that have the minimum but when you put it on a pc like mine with a core 2 duo and 4 gigs of ram it tends to fly and run about 10 x faster then xp ever did

Alright people,
Thanks for replying.

I did want to try out Rc2 but just didnt have the time downloading and stuff.

I play too much Warrock!:D

Vista does look great but i think im gonna stuck with Xp pro for the time being,

How much ram would you guys say that Vista runs fast on? 2Gb?

I dunno if i should buy Vista for my new comp.

Yeah, 2gb should be enough, for now atleast. I ran it with one gig, and vista used about 600mb at desktop

600Mb at desktop:D

Im actualy thinking about getting more than 2Gb for my next system....Probably 3Gb because i will do alot of gaming and i also want to play Crysis so il get myself a Dx10 Graphics card too.

Its gonna be expensive:D Better keep saving.

windows have an assessment tool to see if vista will run just use that

Yeah ive checked that out and it said my comp passed and it will work.

However i didnt trust that assessment tool because the minimum requirements microsoft recomend anyway are far too low for it to run great.

Like when they recomended 64-128Mb been Xps minimum requirements.

Xp runs crappy with even 512 imo.

I don't agree with you

My laptop has 512MB memory and integrated graphics, and it runs XP normally without problem.
Also, in my old computer I had 256MB ram and it runs XP at a normal speed

My friend, it depends on which programs you have. If you have programs that takes a lot of memory then it will slow the computer down.

For example, if you have a system that have 256MB ram and has Avast! antivirus and no antispyware will run as good as or even better than a system that has 512MB ram and has norton and windows defender, because both norton and windows defender takes a lot of memory.

Well...When i had 512Mb of ram i was using F secure security suite so i think thats what used alot of memory...Also to not i used antispyware too and Deamon tools..Etc so yeah i had quite alot of applications running.

XP runs great with even 384MB ram...

Well as maroon1 said...

Probably because i use more memory intensive programs that you.

I do play quite alot of games like Fps so.......512Ram isnt enough for me.
