Disable the Windows firewall and UAC(User Account Control) option found in the control panel. That acts like a super firewall wanting permission for "everything" with most wanting it turned off right after first seeing Vista go on. Thought it was unsafe to disable UAC... but would you need to disable the windows firewall?

The UAC is the new version's annoyance of adminastrative permissions for every little thing making life harder for the average user there with the constant prompting. Once I initially found how to turn that off when first getting Vista back in early 2007 I've kept it off since then on.
The Windws firewall in both XP and Vista alike is a joke! For an excellent freeware try Comodo or Jetico Personal Firewall. I simply run Spyware Terminator for that as well as alertlng on any software changes even when going to remove programs as well as trying out any downloads.
Another tool that works just as well on XP as seen in Vista for claiming a file when going to delete it is called the TakeOwnership item added into the right click menu when going after a specific file. :O nice, Ill get on with the downloads now and GOODBYE stupid "make-believe-you-are-more-secure-warnings" from Vista.
You'll find that Windows is far more in your control once that is turned off! Plus you won't be confronted to log onto your default user account if you only have the admin there. You simply go into the "control panel>user accounts" and look at the last link of the options seen there as seen in the screen shot for that easy enough and simply uncheck the box seen in the next screen that comes up.

1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAP" (this should probably change to UAC in next Vista beta builds and in the RTM version). Click on that line.
3. Press the Launch button.
4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

theres a easier way to get into user accounts go to start and then click on ur picture
There are obviously different ways to enable or diable the UAC as you've seen here. The method outlined earlier is seen at the link posted for reference in case you forget sometime after needing to see reinstalled for some reason like swapping drives or dual OSing a system.
If you follow the typical information seen on how to get into the device manager you would first bring up or down the Start menu by clicking on that and going to settings. From there you go into the control panel and locate the system icon to then open that up to then click on the DM link found on the upper left. pant pant pant "out of breath"!
The simplest solution is to simply right click on the MyComputer desktop shortcut and look for the DM button that way. Now as far as a picture? I don't seem to see one in the Start when trying that out? Jabes

Far from fact there with any degree of smart browsing practices. The most ever seen here in all this time is the usual data miners from browsing shopping sites while making price comparisons. Ad-Aware and Spyware Terminator always seem to clean those off easy enough. No bugs found! No adbots, trojans, viruses, etc. here with the UAC off in a full year's time now!
nag, nag, nag is the intrusive and usually annoying for most popup notifications of the Data Execution Protection process. The UAC deals more with prompting just to run a game or other desktop application on the other hand like needing a password or admin permission to run CoD 4 or HL2?

Except for one thing.
When simply going through the control panel>user accounts no system restart is required to see that change made. When using the msconfig utility you then restart the system followed by checking the "do not show this screen" box upon reaching the desktop each time the utility is used.
