Vista Security tool virus (hijack log)

Got this Vista security tool virus today. I had to take the hard drive out of my laptop and run Malwarebytes off another computer because this virus wont even let Malwarebytes open. Malwarebytes did not fix the virus (had the newest update too).

Not sure what else i can do to remove it?

Malwarebyte's Antimalware isn't an antivirus - maybe you should scan the drive using AVG or some other AV to see if it picks it up...

Alternatively, a quick Google search turned up this page - seems to have pretty comprehensive instructions for the removal of this particular nasty: http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-removal/remove-security-tool-removal-instructions

Just out of curiosity, how did you contract such a thing? :P
 
Please perform the following procedure. When you download the file save it as combo-fix instead of combofix. That way the malware shouldn't stop the program from running. Please download it directly to you desktop as we may need to use it later.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running
 
Scratch that idea, you have a 64bit OS and combofix won't run. Please download rkill and run it and it should temporarily kill the offending process so that you may run malwarebytes, make sure its updated before running.

Download it and run it but don't reboot your system as the malware will restart itself.


After doing that please post the log from malwarebytes and and a fresh hijackthis.
