Vista software question...

Is there any such program that would allow you to run a program that does not work correctly with Vista in an XP environment? Sort of like WINE in linux only this would be XP for Vista? If that makes no sense heres what im doing:

I have GTA: San Andreas and it works on Vista for one player, but when I downloaded SA:MP which is a multiplayer client for San Andreas, it crashes after playing for about 5 minutes. I did research and this is apparently just a windows vista problem. Some have got it to work on vista, but not in ultimate. One possible solution I have tried several times is changing the compatibility of SA so when SA:MP opened it it would open it correctly, but no luck.

So I want a program that would run SA:MP and SA in a windows XP environment (again, like WINE in linux)

Let me know if that is completely confusing... or if you have another solution possibility.

Two possibilities:
1. Make dual boot ( XP and Vista on one computer),
2. Download and install Microsoft Virtual PC Machine, make it with XP and it's so simple and great software, you can have an Internet and all there, I use it for experimenting :P

You can right click on the program .exe or shortcut, and have it run in Windows XP compatibility mode.

Where do I get virtual pc machine?

Do you have to own the operating system you are virtualizing? If I want to run xp in virtual machine do I need a XP install disc?

Is it fast enough to run an online game?

the question is, is your pc fast enough?? ;)

I guess it depends on which game you wan't to run, you may have compatibility errors and things like that...

and to answer the other post, yes, you need the disk with the os you want to install.

good luck!

I wouldn't be THAT sure... It still depends on the game you want to run
crysis, call of duty4, new games will give you nothing but trouble.. you can play at low settings, but before doing that, I would install XP on another partition and use all resources from my hardware

When you use a VM, you need to assign some of your machine resources to the virtual machine, with 2gb of ram, you'll be able to assign only 1gb or 1,5 gb to the virtual machine (does vista run with 256 mb?? well you can try and assign more than 1,5gb to the VM)

virtual box is very intuitive, but if you have problems just follow these tutorials:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...&ct=result&cd=1&q=virtualbox+tutorial&spell=1

or ask here. :)

good luck

it depends on your pc itself, running a virtual machine itself, is already a burden on some pc's.
I advise you to have at least 2gb.
why ?
cos it depends how much ram you will assign the vm or how many ram the game itself needs
