Im jw , there is going to be a SP coming out soon for Vista right ?
and if there is , do you have to pay for it and future SPs ???

Any service packs released for any version of Windows have always been free downloads without charge. Whether or not Vista will see any large service packs like XP did is still up in the air at the present time. There's also some indication that an SP3 will come out for XP that was delayed by MS for pushing Vista out? That was according to one article seen on that.

I wouldn't rush into any beta version however. I tried that with IE 7 and what a mess! After a quick try and removal of that beta I simply waited for the final release which has been running great ever since. The SP3 for XP will have to have IE 7 included there. At least there's promise for Vista afterall if and when an SP2 or SP3 comes out for it. Many have abandoned Vista and are waiting for that or Vienna?

It usually takes about the same amount of time due to the 266mb size. Even on dsl that can take several minutes depnding on how slow the ISP servers are running at the time. If you are on dialup one simple download and backup of the service pack can save quite a bit of time if you are still using a pre-SP2 install disk.

SP2 is one thing now seen required on newer games and programs as well. The actual install takes a little longer then a small update but no long drawn out process there. It's a big package over the usual small updates you would otherwise see. For a Vista SP1? That will be a different story where time will tell there.

Generally it won't take that long. But just remember to add in the larger size of the items contained in it over a small security update that's less then 1mb in size often seen. It takes longer to actually download then install.

That's why I always kept the link when the full download could be saved to disk to avoid the longer wait. Just reinstalling XP Pro lately for the multiboot of Vista saw some 84 updates without needing SP2 on top of that. You can imagine that took some time there. Some go on, restart the system, go back to MS, download and install some more, reboot, etc.. Having the full SP2 stored saved the day when originally stuck with an SP1 disk.
