Vista stopped noticing my disc drives.

Within the last few days my Vista system stopped noticing that I have 2 dvd drives.

It was working fine just a few days ago, but now I get error icons in my device manager and it says my drivers aren't working, so I uninstall and let windows look for updates, but it fails to install new drivers.

The device manager says they're

atapi dvd a dh20a4p ATA device
atapi dvd a dh16D2P ATA device

I tried manually looking for drivers on Google, but I found nothing, but I did see that someone else had the same problem a year ago, but nobody helped him and he never explained how/if he fixed it.

Instead of just using the driver update. Try right clicking on them in Device manager and click uninstall. Reboot and let windows reinstall the drivers.

I forgot to mention, but yes, I've uninstalled them completely, ran CCleaner, then restarted. Still failed.

Have you used some sort of Vista Speed up software recently? Its what mucked up my PC, all i had to do, was go into the software and undo the Speed up - Wasnt much Difference anyway!

also check in bios to see if their in there. You can also make bios default again. Go back in uninstall the roms, reboot and see if that helps.

click fix this problem, download microsofts fix, run it, restart, it should be there now.

It happened to my neighbour a few months back which i found a fix for, it's some problem that can happen in the registry when you install or change a program.
