Vista to 7: Assassins Creed problem

Hi, I just moved from vista 64 bit to windows 7, and I'm having problems with the game assassins creed. I have installed it twice now and its still the same: The game keeps skipping and freezing all the time, almost as if I have insufficient specs to run it. However, I'm running a Q6600 quad core @ 2GHz, 4GB corsair dominator, EVGA GTS 250, which should be more than enough to run it.

It also worked fine on Vista 64-bit, and all my other games work fine on 7. I checked the disk for scrathes and it was fine.

Windows 7 has DX11 installed, which should be backward compatible with all other versions, including DX10 which Assassins creed uses.

What could be the problem, and what can I try?

Thanks alot

Doesnt the Q6600 run higher than 2ghz at default? I thought it was 2.66ghz. Try defragging your HDD and updating the game.

Sorry, its 2.4GHz. I've just installed windows 7 to a freshly formatted partition so that shouldn't be the problem, I found a patch, I'll try installing that.
