Vista to XP driver problems

I just recentely downgraded from vista to xp. Now that I have XP my internet isn't working and nothing shows up under my network connections besides the 1394 connection. I'm almost positive it has something to do with the drives but I am looking to connect directly to the ethernet or wirelessly to my router. When I did update my driver for my wireless card my computer still doesn't recognize that their is a card in there. I just want to be able to connect to the internet with my other computer so I can update every other drive. My Specs are:
Intel D925XCV 925X MB
Pentium 4 560 3.6 1mb l2 cache 800mhz lga775
D-Link Air plus xtreme g DWL G520
Thanks in advance,
Mark

I still have the same problem. I installed all of the drivers but my ethernet or wireless card doesn't show up or I can't set up a connection.

Yes they do its under a title Other Devices everything under there with a question mark and an explanation point is. 1) Audio device on High Def. Audio Bus 2) Ethernet Controller 3) Ethernet Controller 4) Multimedia Audio Controller 5) PCI Input device 6) USB Device 7)Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Under my Network Adapters all it has is two 1394 Net Adapter connections
I tried alot of different driver updates but none has changed this.

Go to this page and download items 2-6. As far as the video controller driver goes, you need to find out what video card you put in the system and go to that manufacturers website and download the driver for it. I'm assuming it doesn't have onboard video since there isn't a driver listed for it. You also need to find out what USB devices you have plugged in and get the driver for it.

Are you sure you have 2 Ethernet Controllers listed? Then you have on-board NIC and another PCI NIC, they are conflicting, you only need ONE of them. Take out the PCI card. So, they still appear in "Other Devices", then? That would mean your using the WRONG drivers. XP should have denied them, because of this. Otherwise, you may need to install them manually...

Have you tried to have Windows find them automatically? If you know the individual parts name, brand, etc. just manually look them up (is your last name really Trotter?).

I've tried the two above suggestions it still doesn't work (my last name is trotter). I think it might be wrong drivers though. Is there a way I can reset them or anything. I really want to figure this out soon. Let me know.

Go to start > right click on my computer > hardware tab > device manager. List everything that has a yellow question mark on it. Then copy those into a post here. Also double click on them and ask Windows to find them. This will give us an idea of what driver it could be (My last name is Trotter too!).

did you verify that you are getting an internet signal? it may have trouble re-syncing.

are you sure you installed the wifi drivers properly? that is going to the manufacturer's website, locating the file with the same model number, locating the correct file (vista/xp) and most importantly (32 or 64 bit)? after that some files are as simple as a double click then restart. others require you to go into device manager, right click, and install from a specified location.

also, if not already configured, you may have to open wireless network connections and allow windows to configure your networks if you don't want a 3rd party program from doing so.

These are the ones with question marks. How do I check if it's a 32 or 64 bit?

You can use more than one NIC in your computer at a time, even ones of different make. It is possible there could be a driver conflict though.

In the Device Manager, uninstall the misbehaving devices. You may also want to start by removing your wireless card and try to get just the Ethernet controller working first.

Misbehaving drive? Is this the ones that I listed above with the question marks infront of it? When I do that and reboot they all come up as add new hardware but I don't have the original driver disks to put them back on. I do however have files under alienware from the first time I had XP that are the drivers that originally came with my computer I'm just not sure how to install them or even where to look for the specific driver.

Yes, the devices that have the yellow exclamation point/question marks: uninstall them (right click - uninstall). Then reboot. Windows should automatically detect the new hardware. You can then install the proper drivers again or let Windows try to find them.

Alienware drivers? Are these the driver disks that originally came with THIS computer that you are having trouble with? If so, then yes, you should be able to use them, but I would check online for more current ones.

Would it be practical for you to re-install Windows XP at all? You may also want to try booting from the XP installation disc and run an installation repair.

Well the problem with reinstalling windows XP is I gave back the disc to the original owner. I do have a alienware recovery disk but its the home edition. I wouldn't mind having the home edition but I don't know if it will screw it up to go back from pro to home.

Well, I'm not sure I can help you in that regard. You could try running the repair install from the recovery disc. Or you could go purchase your own copy of XP Pro.
