Vista To Xp

I bought a new computer with Windows Vista on it. I absolutely hate it. It sucks for games and makes many things more difficult than they should be. How can I put XP back on? I've heard that all you need to do is buy the XP CD and pop it in. Then just restart & run the CD? Is that it? Its a brand new computer and has nothing on it that I need, the only thing I want is VISTA OFF OF IT. All this is, is a fresh install of windows XP right?

Ok. So I put in the CD, reboot and just run it? Then it will erase my hard drive with vista on it and replace it with XP? Also, do I need any programs after I downgrade? Heres what some other guy said, when I asked him the same question:

If you want to do it, yeah, pretty much.

Format your C: drive first for a clean install, and 'pop' in the XP disc.

You'll more than likely void the pc's warranty though, check with the seller.

Don't forget if you want to buy an xp disc, whether oem or retail, you'll need to purchase some hardware with it.
 
If this is a brand new system under warranty and not a custom made system you should bring it in for their service dept. to change OSs at your request. If you go ahead and wipe the drive to put XP on you void any original warranty. Without the experience in deleting partitions, creating new ones, and installing the operating system especially under dealer as well as factory warranty you want them to do it!
 
Nop not gonna bring it in. All I need to do is insert the CD and delete the previous drive (C:), right? I might call the computer people and have them do it maybe. But can someone answer my questions?

I doubt they would do it for free, besides, all he would have to do is re-load Vista on there and he can return it without any problems.

All you need to do is boot from the XP CD and install windows after formatting.

If the recovery partition is removed say goodbye to that idea. Plus not having the experience to reinstall everything would show right off changes were made. After receiving a new system that was custom ordered or simply came with the preinstallation on it from a store you would be paying a service charge. For a custom ordered system you would be paying the shipping costs as well. For someone who knows how to get Windows and all programs reinstalled later the cost of an XP full instal disk is that charge only.

Which is why you can use an imaging program such as Norton Ghost to create a "factory restore point". :)

When you boot from the Windows CD, it will ask if you want to format.
 
If you browse long enough you can an XP Pro OEM disk for as low as $80! Generally the Home version OEM sees a higher price for some reason while the Pro version simply puts a few dos files at the root of the hard drive(old dos system files autoexec.bat, config.sys, msdos.sys) and offers some additional networking features. Retail they still charge higher for Pro.

The ATI drivers went right on the same model card here since ATI was ahead of the game there when Vista first came out. But XP still has to be maintained since some hardwares and softwares would certainly either faster cpu, better video or sound card, new tv tuner card since the software bundle is worthless now on Vista, and the total costs of newer softwares, better hardwares, and of course all Vista ready drivers(full not beta) being released in order to have Vista as the only OS even while it may the default boot.
