Vista/Vienna

vienna isn't really new news. its actually quite old..

blackcomb, aka vienna was suppose to come before vista(annonced around jan. feb. or march of 2000) however, it was pushed bakk to delays and what not. so instead, they released vista instead, and now vienna is coming after.

vienna supposedly is going to come out around 2011 and is suppost to be server-only release, but talks of not even making it entirely arise also.

vienna is supposedly going to be a whole new thing w/ different start menus, shells, an object dock look a like (except it being circular)... and was was going to be compatible with 32 and 64 bit..

quick news.

Interesting that Vista is coming out before Vienna/Blackcomb, then isn't it? I mean, they had plans for Vienna before Vista, so why the switch around?

Thanks for the update! :)

probably because of all the speculation it is suppose to do like what i said earlier.. its suppose to change the whole concept of the windows based system.

talks of possible entirely 3D windows, sidebars, groupBars, new ways of launching applications.. just so many things that they just didn't get it done.

so therefore, created vista. the release of the next new OS was late.. 5 years.. so possibly that was why vista was created to end that long waiting period, giving us something to work with while they work with vienna.

Well, it was news to me at least. Although if all the delays with Vista are any indication, it will be a loooooooooooooong time before we see it on the shelves!

Ahh, I see... Well, it's nice to know that they are always working on something.

I'd like to see in a couple of years time some other OS's hit the market. Like the idea of GoogleOS, etc... But what I would REALLY like to see is Windows and Apple making an OS together, and see the outcome.

lol, apple and windows, can't ever see it happening but would be an interesting concept, what i owuld like to see is apple making/modyfing their OS and making it compatible with normal windows hardware, that is a product that i woulod deifnately buy

never work, that would be like putting nissan and jaguar together to make a car, it wouldnt work at all

chalk and cheese anyone?

but seriously, anything could happen in this wierd world.

i saw another article about that, too far off for me to be bothered with right now though :)

So what I understand is, even though Vista is still 6 months away, Microsoft is already planning its successor? Why would they do that? if they think of any new innovations for Vienna, why not just put them in to Vista, or at least put them in as a patch/service pack?
