Vista vs. XP

Now, I understand that this is THE question that everybody answers but I need a quick answer tonight. I plan on buying a new Dell tomorrow and I need to know if I should get it with XP or Vista. I do not do much gaming (a little but nothing that requires much memory or graphics). I usually use the computer for AIM, e-mail, educational stuff (ms word, powerpoint, excel, outlook... etc.), downloading music and videos, editing music and videos... etc. As you can kind of tell I do a little bit of everything. I don't want to box myself in with Vista (i.e. I am told that sometimes it runs a bit like an apple and there are specific reasons I am not getting an apple - compatibility... etc.). I love the freedoms that come with having a windows and I want to make sure I am not losing that if I go to Vista. Thanks in advanced!

For me, XP is the faster OS.

BUT, the ability to easily use a limited/standard account (vastly increases security) in Vista, makes it the os choice for me.

HI,
Your view about speed is interesting. I find Vista faster if measured by boot speed or how fast programs open. Not sure how else to measure it.

I prefer Vista but XP is a great OS.

for your uses, Vista would be the better OS. just make sure you get at least 2GB of memory and a multicore CPU
