Vista working icon doesn't spin

I have a Dell Laptop that I use for work. It is a brand new E6500. When I first boot it up the default working icon (animated circle) spins like it should. After everything is done loading the working icon no longer spins when the computer is working. It displays a solid circle. My wife has a Dell Studio 15 with Intel X3100 graphics card and 3GB of memory. Her icon works fine all the time. My specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26Ghz
4GB DDR2
Intel Mobile chipset 4
Windows Vista x64 Ultimate edition
1920x1080 Wide LCD Panel

My wife's screen resolution is only 1400x1050. Is the video card in my E6500 to under powered or is there a fix out there?

Just to note, I am able to run the aero theme.

yes I have those files. Like I said, the cursor works for a little bit when I first load into windows. after a few programs startup it stops working. I assume it is because of the shared memory for the video card and the limitation of the video card itself.

How many processes do you have running?

How much RAM is being used?

I have a lot of processes because of the nature of my job. I am a developer, so I have sql server installed locally. I also have lotus notes (God help me), palm sync software, a web browser, and other applications running almost all the time. Unfortunately there aren't many processes I can shut down. There are only about 3 services I can turn off too and still work. They are very low resource intensive services.

I disabled Windows Search Service and it looks like my spinny icon is working again. I don't know if it is a direct cause of shutting that service down. I'll load a few more programs up and see what happens.
