Vista, worth it?

Vista home premium is definitely worth it...If you're using it for work, it has an included voice recognition program. If you are a gamer, you can play dx10 games. If you have OCD (CDO) it rounds the edges on windows and icons.
It has a much better file search utility and it's a lot easier to find files manually or set up something in CP.
Ultimate's much better, but the feature-price difference isn't worth it for average users.

Ironically enough, IMO the search feature is one of the frustrating things of Vista, not to mention it keeps crashing on me every now and again.

if you are buying an os, definitely get vista. if you already have xp though, don't bother upgrading.

+1 If you already have XP, there's no any particularly good reason for upgrading to Vista, unless you're a gamer in which case DX10 would be the deciding factor, you really like to have the newest no matter what (in which case you wouldn't be asking anyways), OR you need some piece of software that only happens to run on Vista.
 
Windows Vista with SP1 is stable and reliable, since SP1 I've not found any major problems that the average user would notice, as a programmer,white hatter (with a little black hat inside - lol) I do see some coding issues, but all in all - no problems.

I have multi boot with Mac OS/Linux Ubuntu/Windows Vista - all on a PC :O)))

Time for my 50 cents... Like others are mentioning, Vista Home Premium with SP1 is GREAT... IDK why others are having problems but im lovning it and i used to be a big xp guy. Stable, DX10, can read 8 gigs (64bit)... its really nice once u turn off some of those options vista comes with. Windows 7 is going to have alot of bugs just like every other OS that ever came out and by the time 7 becomes stable and reliable, XP would be ancient. So i recommend getting vista 64bit.

I am probably not up to speed with most of you here, being just an operator of this thing rather than knowing how it works, but.....

When I had XP, are saw a word that I didn't know the definition of, I just hi-lighted it and right clicked it and it was auotmatically looked up on MW.

Also, I was able to make composits of pictures with XP and not with vista.

Other than that, I am impressed with the speed in internet surfing and on balance, it is OK I guess.
