vista xp networking

Hey guys I have serched all over and cannot find a fix to this. First off my vista boxes talk to each other no problem. I would however like to remove the passwords so they just connect and no issues. But most importantly I have an xp machine that is on the same workgroup and they cannot talk to each other. Any suggestions?

So here is what i want to do:
1)Get all 3 computers to talk to each other 2 vista and 1 xp pro
2)Remove passwords from usernames so I do not have to type them to log in each time... but this was the only way so far i saw to get the 2 vista boxes to talk...

SMB2 sucks, but there is a work around it kind of works but I wouldn't get your hopes all up.

If you have Windows Vista Home Basic/Premium:
Open the registry editor. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa. There will be a value called LmCompatibilityLevel. Set that to DWORD 1. Reboot and try to connect again.

If you have Windows Vista Enterprise, Business, or Ultimate:
Follow the instructions at »www.builderau.com.au/blogs/codem···39270746
The above registry editing will work, but this method is easier to accomplish.

If you have a newer version of Mac OS X that has Samba ≥ version 3.0.22:
Edit the file /etc/smb.conf and add the following line to the [global] section:
client ntlmv2 auth = yes
Restart Windows File Sharing and attempt to connect again.

You can use this with earlier versions of Samba 3.0, but there are some bugs to be wary of.

crap it worked for me a few days ago and now its down.

It has to do with the NTLMv2, and how it is not fully backwards compatible. I am sure google will show something if you google it.

LOL that figures all i want to do is share files i guess i will have to reformat this pc and put vista on it. On a side note is there a way around having to have a username and password nad still have it authenticate.

Oh and there should be no reason you have to install vista on that machine, XP will network with it, but it is just inconsistent.

Its just driving me insane becuase i just want to transfer files from it without having to plug into an external hdd which i think i might have to do ahhhh nutz seriously nutz! lol

hum, i have 4 computers on my network. 3 with XP and my laptop with Vista. i had no trouble viewing, editing and sharing files from XP to Vista or vice versa. but i had to return my laptop about a month ago.....got another new laptop with Vista again and am in the same boat as you.

But i am only having trouble accessing files on my Laptop(Vista) while on other computers with XP. i can access all of my 3 XP computers from Vista no problem tho.

on your Vista machine what sharing options are turned on? also did you go into the sharing options in your drive properties to turn on the sharing for that specific folder?
