Every software and drivers i have used so far have worked for me too, i think it was just prejudgement because of the previous version's history, microsoft have done really well with Vista

Are you on 32 or 64bit?

so, is it not worth getting vista if im a heavy gamer? (i need a new OS, im buildin a new comp)

I'm still seeing "bugs" with some to resolve like HL2. At first it wouldn't stay changed from 5.1 surround to the headphone setting in the game itself. Episode One needed something besides the beta drivers Creative released last fall for the RC1 beta version of Vista then. The march release of drivers for the Audigy line of cards helped there. Now sound is gone as soon as the next game map loads. You have to go into the options>audio and change from 5.1 to headphones again and click apply to then hear sound as you go to click the resume item.

HL2 needs a full reinstall here on Vista while still going strong on XP. That also means reinstalling HL1, EP1, and CSS all over again here along with the download time involved to see it will stay running on the next try. But that's Steam for you.
