First Things First, Welcome to ComputerForums.

Ok. Sounds like a hardware related problem, what are the specs of your computer, sounds as though your computer is limiting vista.

Disconnect everything you do not need to boot of CD and Reformat your PC onto XP such as things in your PCI slots etc....

can you put the hdd into another pc as slave and format it ?

That is Pointless, Although it may fix a problem of vista doing something to stop you reformating hdd... Give it a try, you will have to reformat the hdd again on the computer you want to use, because each motherboard uses different settings and cannot boot off another computers settings.

Ill keep watching the forum, Reply if that doesnt work.

Mitch.

Just asking what are your computer specs... Cuz 2 Gig should run Vista smoothly (making it almost as fast as xp)

It should... but a hardware conflict or seomtihng could be it too. 2gs or RAM is alot... its 2x the needed memory... and if Windows has a virus thats preventing you from formatting I would check that out too. I second the slaving idea, as we all know it will definetely work. Try removing everything unessary, only the mobo, cpu, psu, hdd, one cd, and a video card. then try installing it.

Nah Buddy, Thats not how it works.

Computer specs means what is your computer such as

CPU
Hdd size
Graphics Card
Ram (which you already told me)
Motherboard (if you know it)

Things like that.

Theres alot of things you gotta Take into Consideration.

All good. Think, if you had a 32mb Graphics card, a 1.1ghz processor and 2gb Ram... even with that much ram, Vista will still run like s*#t...

Mate, do you know the Strain Vista would put on a system.

Vista Aero, That Requires quite some processing power, let alone GPU power.

Are you sure your not just making this stuff up, its VISTA were talking about buddy, not XP. XP will run on any system with the minimum required ram (128Mb)

okay my specs are:
Processor:Intel(R)Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
Ram:2gb
System Type:32-Bit
Graphic Card:NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO
Motherboard: Asus P5LD2
Harddrive: 160GB western Digital

okay now tell me from the beggining wat i have to do all i want is a clean install of xp but i want keep everything thats on drive D:/ (it is the other half of my HD i split my hd into 2 drives) C:/ (system files) D:/ (games and entertainement)

If you reinstall your OS, your going to have to reinstall all your games and programs, even if they are on a separate partition or drive.

Hmm... when you go to setup cant you just delete the C: partition, make it unpartitioned , then install the OS on that partition and leave the 2nd partition alone? or do you have to make a clean install?
