vmware - copied or moved?

We are using vmware in class and I have two virtual environments on my external hard drive.

I have vmware on my home PC and when I connect it and begin to open it up. I get prompted with the copied or moved.

I'm unsure what I should really do here as I am not looking to mess anything up.

I have used google, but still seem a bit puzzled.

Would someone help me out here?

Thanks

It's on your external drive and you move it from computer to computer. Just select you copied it and it'll work fine.

You can even select 'I moved it' and it will function perfectly, so it really doesn't matter which one you click.

Copying means you now have 2 or more copies of the same VM. Moving means you moved a VM from one place to another. Not really sure why VMWare cares but I think it may have to do with licensing of the guest OS.

Well I tried moved the other day and just got done trying copying.

I was able to view both machines and view folders, but at this moment I don't have no internet connection available to me while on virtual.

our instructions for class were to leave them on vm3 under settings, but now I am thinking to maybe select bridge for the mean time while here at home so that I may continue with my assignment if all works.

the last few days for me using vmware has been a pain. Some things just weren't working well for me and yesterday in class I had no internet connection again.

SMH.

Be sure you install VMWare Tools so it can utilize any necessary hardware. But yes, to be able to get internet on the guest OS it needs to be set to either Bridge or NAT in the network properties.

went ahead and installed it.

Thanks

In regards to the copy or move question, it is because vmware wants to know whether to reuse the same UUID or create a new one. The safest answer is "copy" since it will create a new UUID. See here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1541

Thanks as well :good:
