voided or still okies?

ok i bought all brand new parts to build a gaming pc with . everything was all wired up and ready to go, i turn it on, and everything lights up and fans start spinning round. but when i try to open the dvd drive, it doesnt work.

so, thinking this is a motherboard problem i pull out the ribben cable connected to the dvd drive andthen it decides it wants to open.

the ribben cable i used was labelled CD-ROM but ive plugged it into a DVD drive, do u think it matters.

but anyway gettin to my point. i find that loads of people have had the same problem with their mobo too (ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE) and they ended up returning theirs.

i dnt think i can return mine becausse i have replaced the motherboard fan with an akasa cooling fan.

have i voided my warranty?
 
If you still have the original fan to replace, I don't believe you've voided anything, since you haven't been messing around with clock speeds, and it's not like you've dropped the thing. I wouldn't mention it to them though, just in case though.

Although it says it's for a CD-ROM, an IDE cable is an IDE cable, and shouldn't be causing you the problem. If you have a spare PCI slot, and it's a known problem with the mobo, it may be less hassle and cheaper if you just buy a PCI IDE expansion card. I'm not saying it's the ideal solution, but it would save you a lot of unscrewing, unplugging etc., as well as shipping fees and returns fees if you bought over the internet.
 
i cant get the original fan back on as i had to cut the spring loaded pins off in order to get the other one back on (the cooler fan is an adhesive one)

well me and my brother put our money together and we are buying a new mobo, with a fanless design
 
That's fine then. My idea wouldn't really be fixing the problem, just sidestepping it. It goes without saying though, before buying make sure you know everything there is to know about customer problems. :)
 
thanks for the help guys, my bro has already gone an ordered the new mobo and its should be coming tomorrow, its an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium skt939 its the one up from my previous board with a few extra features and a fanless design (woop). its gonna cost me an extra £113 to get a new mobo but i guess its for the best really coz ive heard a lot of dodgy things about my broken board. and plus i get all these spare parts :)

its nothing to do with the cables, its the actual motherboard that has a fault with it, ive found out hundreds of them have ended up liek it :P
