Voltage mods

Hey, is there any small piece of hardware that you can connect or solder on to an Abit SG-72 motherboard that will increase the voltage. What about a mod to the PSU, i need to up the voltage in the CPU's vcore somehow and my crappy BIOS wont let me do it.

1. uh... you sure your crappy BIOS wont let you?
2. are you sure you wanna crank that Prescott478?

Your right it is a prescott. And why wouldnt i want to wack up the voltage...... Cooling it is another question i just want to know about voltae mods at the moment

well, anyone got any words of wisdom they want to part with, this post thread doesnt seem to be going anywhere.......? I have an Abit SG-72 and want to increase the voltage to the CPU. Obviously SKT478 800FSB. I need a new project to work on so i might aswell make it a voltage mod.

there is, its a potentiometer(pots), it wont kick up your Ram voltage but it will stabilize it, and its not easy to do :D

I had a look at your bios and it seems your right, there is no where to specify vcore.
You could update the bios, but the revision history makes no mention of introduing the feature so it seems you are out of luck there.

As for a voltage mode, this is no easy task nor is it something univeral to all boards. I found an old tutorial on line, this may give you an idea of what you're proposing to do.

ok, thanks, i have downloaded the update to the bios and im just waiting for a convienent time to do it. Wont be today as i have a 2 and a half hour media studies GCSE to do. Thanks for all your help.

I think i have cghanged my mind on the voltage mods, they seem too complicated for a fairly novice user like myself.

I haven't checked but the voltage setting may be jumper based, try reading through the manual if you still want to try it.

I have checked the maual and it doesnt say anything about jumper voltage control, i also had a quick look over the board itself and didnt find any jumpers that i dont already know what they do.

Seems like im stuck with th voltage that it's at now. Any suggestions on SKT 478 motherboards with good overclocking features in a "sensible" price range. Thanks

yeah, i has a look online and i could see the jumper either, from you other posts i can tell your egar drogan, i think an new board is top of your list for next upgrade

You raise the FSB, the multiplier is the only thing locked so that you can't make your 14x multiplied 2.8 GHz prescott an 18x multiplied 3.6Ghz prescott, if this were allowed no one would buy the expensive chips.
