Hello all, My question is why am I not able to access my file-servers when I connect to my Network over the internet through VPN. My vpn server is my windows 7 desktop. I'm able to connect to it because when I issue the ipconfig command I receive an IP address from the pool I specified when configuring the VPN server. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming you're at home, and behind a router, correct?

you would be correct sir, I've enabled port forwarding on my router

Have you disabled IPSec in your router configuration? I had an issue where my VPN client (for security reasons, or the VPN client was not IPSec compliant) could not pass through the router, unless IPSec was disabled.

As far as I know I was using PPTP in my router, not IPSec. Not sure if this matters or not.

IPSec isn't the authentification of the VPN, it's a security feature sometimes automatically enabled in routers; it enables more than one VPN network to authenticate, but can cause issues. There should be something of a check box in the router config, that states "IPSec (VPN)".
