I want to create a VPN for remote access to my PC. Can I do this separately on XP without disturbing my current network setup, or do I have to reconfigure everything? Thanks.

Do you want your xp machine to be a vpn server or do you want to connect to your vpn using your xp machine. If you want to connect to a vpn using your xp machine it will be similar to connecting and disconnecting from a wireless network, it's pretty much just another layer. As far as using xp as a vpn server you'll have to look for a 3rd party app because only windows server operating systems can do that. You could always create a linux server to do it (good freaking luck).

I want my XP machine to be the VPN and connect to my xp machine from other remote locations.

I found this link: http://www.onecomputerguy.com/networking/xp_vpn_server.htm
it looks like it can be done?

No, I will be using a palm phone to connect to it. I already have a VNC client working this way, but I want the added security of a VPN.

Yeah, then you'll need to get some sort of 3rd party application that does it for xp because xp doesn't have native support for that. I'll look around and see if I can come up with a good way to do it.

i did, found it interesting. thank you very much. my i can use for my ftp server for family. that would be nice. maybe since i use remote software like real vnc. in fact this is my biggie. any ideas or suggestions. im thinking this might work for me.
thanks.....
