W7 sleep issue

My brother has a computer that won't sleep without him having to restart his computer.. He has 2GB of ram, OS is Windows 7 RC 7100 x64. I disabled the network card/wireless mouse/keyboard so that they're not allowed to wake the computer up from sleep mode... It worked a little while ago, but now all of the sudden it refuses to sleep.. It would turn off the display but the computer would still be idle. Any thoughts?

don't let it sleep I have 36 pc in my room all running! never do any sleep!

But why not checking the settings and don't disable the wireless card the mouse and keyboard as its a wast of time, can be annoying and may cause errors!

So the settings should be the error take a look at what the PC needs to sleep!

It may be better to just turn off the hard disks or hibernate!

open power option. click change plan setting at your preferred plan.
Click advanced power setting. Search for multimedia setting. Click it. At when sharing media option, select allow pc to sleep. That should fix it.

I don't think that that's the problem.. Considering I've dealt with 3-4 other PC's that have W7RC on it and they sleep fine...

So tell me. What is your power bill like??

And it doesn't cause errors, you do this in device manager and right click on properties go to power management tab and uncheck the "let this device wake the computer" box so that it doesn't wake the computer.. If you don't do that for your network card then your computer will never sleep...

Is the computer networked?

If file sharing is enabled, the default settings will not let it sleep.

That would have to be changed in the Advanced Power settings.

Did you even look??? I say that becoz exact situation happen to me recently and the solution is like what I said...

Well unfortunately that didn't work. It continues to do the same thing. And yes, it did keep the setting you said to turn off. And I disabled hybrid sleep and still nothing. Anything else?

I don't need to to make it sleep and my power bill is the same as it would be if there all unplugged because I use something called a UNT Power Timer

So it will run power with screen off and USB items off for 5 hours then go to battery for 2 hours so the price for a moth of computer use is the same price on my power bill as using my TV for a hour!

(use for my server)

(battery is solar charged in 5 hours)

And sleep can cause your computer speed and ram to suffer!

O there is a idea is your computer strong enough like any free ram or is it a bugy computer?

Solar? Nice.. I want solar. But it'd have to be big in order to FULLY charge my computer. How big is your panel?

Oh it has 2GB of RAM and 700+GB and I haven't deleted the temp files on it (the ones that put it to sleep). I don't think it's the RAM. 2GB is enough right?
I was having issues with the sleep function - I ended up disabling it - and have had no problems since.

Hmm. I guess that's what it might have to come down to... :\
