Can someone give me confirmation on whether or not the Core 2 Quad 6600 2.4ghz is actually going to drop to $266 or not? I'm only holding off on building because I'm waiting for it over the already ~$200 Core 2 Duo 6600. A quick yes or no please. :D

(Oh and don't link to that 'hong kong analyst' site because other sites called it rumor.)

honestly, if you are going to wait, i'd wait for the price drop in the quad to affect the c2d's price as well and then get one of those instead.

I completely agree. C2D are really powerful and I doubt that the Core 2 quad will ever drop to that price.

Any reason ?

Intel has dropped the price on April 22 as they said, and they will drop it again on Q3 2007. I don't think that they are lying.

and just fyi, if there is a price break, it's expected in q3, which is not june.

Q3 starts on June

Q3 starts on June

Q1: January, February, March
Q2: April, May, June
Q3: July, August, September
Q4: October, November, December.

It starts in July, but I was thinking more around August..

well, I guess I am being a bit impatient. I'll decide based on the higher number of votes on this poll by sunday or monday.

EDIT: btw, Wikipedia says
Such fiscal years are typically numbered using a calendar year and quarter thereof. A fiscal quarter is 3 months (1/4 of a year). For example, the United States government fiscal year for 2007 ("FY07", sometimes written "FY06–07") is as follows:

* 1st Quarter: October 1, 2006 – December 31, 2006
* 2nd Quarter: January 1, 2007 – March 31, 2007
* 3rd Quarter: April 1, 2007 – June 30, 2007
* 4th Quarter: July 1, 2007 – September 30, 2007

So the U.S. government's fiscal year begins on October 1 of the previous calendar year and ends on September 30 of the year with which it is numbered. However, as stated above, the tax year for a business is governed by the fiscal year it chooses.
