waking laptop up from sleep

hi there

i am currently using a lenovo thinkpad e450

and whenever i put my laptop to sleep, sometimes it would wake up when i touched the mousepd/ hit random keys.

however sometimes it doesnt respond to these. so i pushed the power button. but instead of waking the laptop up, this brings me to the 'power up' menu. and it says i didnt shut down my computer properly and prompted if i want to start up my computer in safe mode or normal mode.

so i was hoping someone can advice me on this. i dont think its a wise idea to keep exposing my laptop to frequent 'improper shut down' procedures when trying to wake it up from sleep.
 
Sounds like it lost power at some point that prevented it from staying in sleep mode.
