Try to find a 5970 card before you buy 2 5850's, it is faster without CR problems, not that CF is bad though. Just more to deal with. Each time I wanted a 5979 I found one.

I just called my place, they have 2 Saphire 5970s OC in stock, the best card made right now. $719 each, you only need one. So for $100 more you would have the best.

Wouldn't my framerate be higher with two 5850s compared to one 5970?

Here is a link to a test with these cards. You also are building a 1156 comp that will use 8x8 PCIE which will reduce your speed in CR some more. However, the 5850 is not slow. This test did not show it but some show the 5870 cf faster than the 5970.

Get a better PSU.

That one isn't "bad", but ABS isn't the greatest stuff either...

Silverstone, Corsair, and XClio make the best PSU's in the ~1kw range.

Went with corsair 1k.
