Want Some Opinions on a Thermal Pad Versus Grease

I want some opinions on a thermal pad versus thermal grease. I just bought an AMD Athlon 4600+ Dual-Core processor (going to run it at manufacturer's specified speeds, no overclocking planned). I plan on switching out the processor in about three years for a Phenom Quad-Core processor and keeping the motherboard I just bought. Would it be easier to get the heat sink off if in the future if I used the thermal pad or if I used thermal grease?

Opinions on those with experience would be appreciated.
 
Well thermal (pads) dont work worth a crap, so yes compound/grease would be better. If you talking about what comes applied to the CPUs retail CPU heatsink, thats just compound applied by a machine. It kinda just looks like a pad its so uniform.

So the thermal pad would be easier to remove? Or the grease? Remember we are talking about it being on the heat sink and processor for about three years.
 
Well I guess the easiest over a long time period as far as the cpu not getting stuck to it would be the old silicone based compound. But it will run a few degrees warmer than something like Silver 5 or some type of ceramic compound
