What is Hijackthis software ?.How can I get it and know about it ?

HJT doesn't clean malwares at all, it just removes hijacked entries.

I was under the impression that it found all sorts of things and not just hijack entries, thanks for letting me know.

About the worst you can do is stop your antivirus program and other important programs from running at bootup, but that is easily fixable.
