Want to upgrade a little bit

Hey guys. This is my first post but I plan to stick around and not pull one of those one post jobs just to get an answer to a question...but anyway:

I have an hp pc. It's Pretty new, athlon 3000+, 512mb ram (pc2700 333mhz), but just a geforce mx 4000 64mb. I want to upgrade the ram and the video card as I just did the sound card.

Any suggestions as to what to upgrade in those 2 catagories? I am looking to spend not too much. The video card I was looking at was a ati radeon 9800 I dunno how good that is or if there is a better alternative, and my cousin was going to sell me a stick of 512mb for a good price. but i have 2 sticks of 252mb taking up my slots.

any suggestions? thanks!
 
We need to know the model of the PC to tell you about the video card. Since you have an MX4000 I would think you would have AGP. What do you use your PC for. You don't need much of a better grapics card if you aren't a gamer.

Probably best just to give us a budget, the 9800 come in a few flavours. The best being the 9800pro at about $130isd

You may have to replace them with 1 x 512mb (which can add a little to the expense).

I / someone will help more when we have more info.
 
I am at work right now...unfortunately. When I get home I'll check on what motherboard I have.

I use my computer for games, music, and whatever. I buy/get a new game roughly once every 2 months. Recently I have been playing Guild Wars. And it annoys me how the grass will turn an off white and seemingly dissapear so to speak. Also the fact that on occasion my character will run vvvveeerrryyy sssslllllooooowwwww. I am looking to play games such as F.E.A.R., Hellgate: London, and probably some newer RTS or whatever.

I just need help pickign the right parts. I know how to install the parts and change them. I just don't want to make a purchase foolishly and get the wrong thing when I am not positive.

I am not sure exactly how to identify a mother board. But I did a system profile and here's what I got:

Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. A7N8X-LA Rev 1.xx
Serial Number: X312345678
Bus Clock: 166 megahertz

I also found out that is is for sure AGP. Now my ram is at 333mhz do I need a video card that has some type of similar mhz or doesn't it matter?
