Hi

After having my PC for 3 years i am wanting to upgrade it as it has recently been really slow when ive been using it.

Im a music producer therfore i use quite alot of programs that need a decent pc to run without crashing or becoming slow.

My mate told me that if i want to upgrade i should just buy a new proccessor, ive done abit of research so i was just wondering if you guys can help me out with these questions...

1) Before buying a processor do i need to check anything on my pc's motherboard or anything?

2) What is a good processor these days? I need something decent as ill be using sum big software, any suggestions on some?

3) Is it easy to put a processor in on my own? Or is it something technical?

4) Before buying some ram for my pc what should i check on my computer first?

5) Around about how much should i be spending on both of these things? Im on abit of a budget already you see

Thats all i really need to know for now, could somebody please get back to me... i know its alot but im just really confused on what to do and how to do it lol

Thanks people

1 i coulb be wrong but i think most are conpadible. not sure so wait for some one elst too tell you.

2 a good prossessor is a high ghz intel dule 2 core. they are very good and fast.

3 it should be, just take the fan/heet sync off and remove it.

4you need to check your ram. i dont know exactly what to look for but there is a sticker with the info.

5 i would be guessing that you will get 1-2 gb of ram. that could be 50-100 $ and the prossessor, if a very high ghz, could be 300-500$

1- Indeed you're wrong, get everest or tell us brand/model of the computer and we'll try to find some info on it

2- Not on a 3 years old pc

3- depends on what kind of processor and socket along with the brand you bought it from

4- You need to know what type of ram is, like if it's DDR or DDR2 and how much/type your mother board supports

5- increasing prices on the ram, i would say at least 80$ for 2gb if you're lucky

right people, i just found out that the motherboard i have is a:

MSI K7 MAINBOARD KT4AV

I done some research and i found out that this motherboard can take 3000AMD Athlon XP Processors and up to 3GB Memory. Can somebody comfirm this for me?

Now can you guys help me find a decent processor please?

Thanks!!

I went on my computer properties and this is all it says about my current system:

AMD Athlon (tm) XP
1.13 GHz 256 MB of RAM

does that help or u need more info???

Go To Msi's Website And Find Your Board It Will Give You The Particulars. Look Inside, But Don't Touch Anything, And See If You Can Get The Exact Number On The Board

Theres a KT4AV that has 2 ram slots that can run 2gbs of ram and theres a KT4AV-L that has 3 ram slots that can run 3gbs. Both boards can run up to a Athlon XP 3000 with 333FSB.
