so i just got a new toshiba portege from my bday and i love everything about it! except for the 5400rpm hdd. 1st can you guys recommend me a good ssd with a good price. (i know they arent cheap, i just want the most bang for my buck) 2nd if i make a backup disk is there a way to just back up my computer and then restore it with my ssd installed? or do i need to get a new copy of windows? (sorry if thats a dumb question)

My kids bought me one but not installed yet. I will, and my adventure. Not yet though. This link tells ya how to install and get the speed. I would do a clean install as said here. Make sure you can accommodate these settings or get close. read it, study it. I have a Intel 80 gig but when i do i will load many default programs on the secondary. another adventure. The Intel came with a utility to copy the drive. Sure others do. If your laptop is old it might not be what you expect. you will not get the speed.

study the guide.

OCZ good cheap SSDs their reliability are lowest of all others

Kingstone, good and cost effective (not cheap) and works great, i use it and like it.

Corsair and Crucial, relatively costly but good over all

Intel costliest of them all and reliability is by far the best seen in SSD.

for back up and stuff it best to install HD back up software like paragon hard drive manager and back up and restore from it. if you buy kingstone ssd there are notebook bundle which includes external enclosure and you put SSD in it run the software CD came with it and back up the HD in it including all data and everything. than replace the HD with SSD and you can use the empty enclosure for the HD you took out for data back up or storage.

If you use a SSD, then you can not use the BT software. Otherwise you will find your SSD in a very short period of time problems. My laptop is WD5400RPM / min, I was using super cache + SD using windows of readyboots. Unfortunately, only 6.5, I'm trying to use 7200RPM hard drives are more efficient. At present, only 100M / s, average speed 49.2M / sec. If you just want to get the 7.9 system, you can modify the registry. a copy of windows on the network a lot in China.
