I have a dell dimension 8100 bought in 2001 i think and it has a pentium 4 processor 1.5ghz now i'm just starting to learn about computers but i was wondering if i am able to get a better processor to fit in the same spot something alittle bigger with out changing the mother board.

how can i find out the socket type i'm not really sure what that is either sorry wish i could be more helpful but anything you can tell me how i can find these things out to give you more info would be great budget not really a problem

I said this in another one of your threads, download CPU-z.

just get a brand new computer
why would i buy a computer when this computer is already pretty good holds up to 2g of RDRAM and i already have the hard drive and everything i want in it i just need to upgrade ram and processor if at all possible

sorry aces, but they didn't nake much better processor for socket 423. your cpu socket is obsolete, and also is rdram. a new computer sould perform better for less money than the upgrades would cost you.

yea, id build a new one.
2gb is a lot but its not worth 2gb of ram if it takes 2-4 seconds to read the whole 2gb...
btw thats not very fast ram. 1gbps = lose.
mine benchmarks 6.8GBPS THO! :) WOO HOO!

you can use most of your components for your next new built computer

except change your motherboard/ cpu/ and video card

thats a new computer,,,

do you wanna explain to us what exactly your computer has?
the parts, so that may be we can help you how to "upgrade" your computer
and perheps get ready to play some intense games?

um, when i said build a new computer, i meant change motherboard, and cpu

they are the main parts of the computer that are most important..
withought upgrading your motherboard, its not so easy chaning your cpu, because choices are very limited
