Wanting a backup hard drive....opinions?

I'm needing to get some sort of backup storage for my hard drive. I have a lot of music that has taken me years to collect and some other important files as well. I had originally planned on going with an external hard drive, but I can also get an internal drive for cheaper. Are there any opinions on which one I should go with?

I dont need much bigger than 250GB, and thats leaving plenty of overhead room. Do the internal drives last any longer than external ones? Is it easier to get an internal so that i can RAID the drives, or is it not very hard/time consuming to copy over to an external drive?

any input is appreciated. Thanks

Depends how frequently you'll use it to determine whether or not internal will last longer than external.

If I were to RAID the internal drive, wouldnt it constantly be updating anything saved on the main drive? If I were to get the external, I would probably only update it a few times a month..

It is a great idea to keep things backed up. Either choice will be fine, internal or external.

It's not really hard to copy over to an external...just drag and drop the files. If you add another internal it is the same thing...drag and drop. I keep everything important on 2 hard drives, one internal and one external.

I had a major system failure a couple years ago and will never forgive myself, about 3 years worth of pictures and videos of my kids and many other things that I'll never be able to replace.

Make sure you know what you are doing if you try and set up a RAID array. Back everything up first on an external:)

thanks for the quick replys. i think i will just stick with an external, that way i can keep it in the fire safe as well. any opinions on brands? i usually stick with WD or seagate..
