i was trying to put my 6750 on the ds3 motherboard, didn't realize it had a plastic protector covering the pins. tried to lock it in place on the mobo (used a little pressure) until i realized it wasn't going to work, so then i stopped and read the directions and realized to take the plastic thing off. i probably didn't screw anything up, did i? none of the pins looked damaged.
 
would it be something that i'd notice as soon as the computer booted up, or would this be like something that happened over time? everything looked fine. i think that plastic cover allowed the pressure i put down to be applied evenly...so more harmless hopefully...
 
If you damaged a pin, it wouldn't fit into the socket unless you use force, which could damage more pins. If they're all pointing straight up, then your safe, but don't force it into the socket. If it doesn't fit with no pressure, then something is wrong.

Really? I think they started with the 5xx series of P4's....

And considering that an E6750 is a Core 2 Duo....^

Those 'pins' are confined to little holes, this is very hard to mess up...

i left the plastic cap on the processor which is why the pins didn't go in the holes. i tried to secure the processor to the board not realizing there was a plastic cap on the processor. as i pushed the locking device into place (i never got it locked) i noticed what felt like too much pressure. too much pressure because the plastic thing was still on, so i removed it.

computer booted fine. where can i check in the ds3 bios to see the cpu speed (as in mhz, just to make sure the thing is working properly). i have another problem though...i posted it in this forum in this section.

also, cpu temp showed 34 degrees celsius with arctic silver and arctic freezer 7 cooler. that was just after it had been on ~5 min. that seems high, no?

temp doesn't seem high it takes a little while for the as5 to setup to so after a little while the temps should be a little lower

It should show on the Bios/boot screen. Thats not bad, it takes Arctic Silver a few days to break in.
